Our teachers participated in the project presentation of the "Wanli Forum - Research on Economic and Social Development in Northeast Brazil"

On November 3rd, 2022, the online "Wanli Forum - Research on the Economic and Social Development of Northeast Brazil" project, sponsored by our school and co-organized by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Recife and the Confucius Institute of the University of Pernambuco, was successfully held.

Consul General YAN Yuqing of the Chinese Consulate General in Recife, Governor Brandon of the Brazilian state of Maraniao, GUO Yinghui, Secretary General of the Brazilian Association of Chinese Enterprises, Freire, Director of the Department of International Relations of Pernambuco, Capello, Deputy Director of the Department of Economy of Ceará, Pessoa, Deputy Secretary General of the Brazilian Northeast Federation, Juniol, CEO of the Brazilian Business Leaders Organization China More than 80 representatives from China and Pakistan attended the briefing, including Borgis, a researcher from the BRICS countries at the Asian Research Center of the Federal University of Pernambuco, members of the research group, and relevant leaders of the school's research and development department and the International Cooperation Office attended the report meeting and Vice President LI Tao delivered a speech..The report was hosted by JIA Yuge, Director of the Scientific Research Department. Our college teachers, Associate Professors LIU Liguang and LIU Yan, attended the presentation meeting and reported on the research results.

Associate Professor LIU Liguang, as the overall leader of the research group for this year's "Research on Economic and Social Development in Northeast Brazil" project, introduced the overall completion status of the project. He stated that with strong support from all parties, the project team has overall achieved the expected goals. The main achievements of the project are reflected in: the project has organized the challenges in key areas such as economic and social development in northeastern Brazil and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil, and has put forward targeted countermeasures and suggestions. The research activities have broadened the horizons of researchers and laid the foundation for in-depth academic exchanges and exploration of think tank construction between China and Pakistan. For the first time in scientific research organizations, we have tried the management method of cross professional and cross college collaborative teams, and have gained valuable experience.

Associate Professor LIU Yan is the leader of the sub project "Research on Investment by Chinese Enterprises in the Northeast of Brazil". She emphasized the necessity of cooperation between the two countries in the field of trade and investment in the context of the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the election of Lula as the new President of Brazil. In the project report section, Associate Professor LIU Yan reported on the resource advantages and investment preferential policies of northeastern Brazil, as well as the current investment situation, investment opportunities, challenges faced, and response strategies of Chinese enterprises in the region. Finally, a brief introduction was given to the research results of Chinese enterprises investing in renewable energy electricity in northeastern Brazil.

The "Research on Economic and Social Development in Northeast Brazil" is a research and innovation cultivation project advocated by our university in response to the initiative of the Chinese Consulate General in Recife, targeting the actual development of the northeastern region of Brazil, and combining the disciplinary expertise of our existing researchers. The first batch of projects covers five thematic projects, including regional industrial policies, poverty reduction, cultural dissemination, legal framework, and investment opportunities and challenges. Future research projects will delve into the complex and rich historical and practical issues in northeastern Brazil, encourage cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian scholars to tackle key issues, promote better service of scientific research results to local development, and create greater benefits for promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Brazil.
